Zelenskyy Calls for European Union to Use Seized Russian Funds for Ukraine's Defence Funding

Amid current conference discussions, Ukrainian President has insisted EU representatives to activate actions employing seized Russian resources to support Ukrainian defense campaign "as soon as possible".

Addressing European Union leaders in the EU capital on the summit day, the Ukrainian leader highlighted the crucial necessity to completely use Russia's assets for his country's defense against current aggression.

"Whoever postpones this resolution is not only hampering our defence but also hindering your own advancement," he stated, vowing that the nation would invest substantial money in acquiring EU-made weapons.

EU Loan Initiative

EU leaders are presently discussing plans to fund an interest-free financial package for Ukraine backed by Russia's central bank assets, which were immobilized shortly after the extensive invasion.

The European Commission has suggested a 140-billion-euro interest-free loan, with possible instructions to draft comprehensive regulatory frameworks intending to complete the initiative by December.

Global Positions

Russian authorities has labeled the scheme as "theft" and has pledged to take action against any persons or nations deemed to have taken Russian assets.

Brussels authorities, which holds substantial Russian assets at the financial institution, representing the majority of all Russia's government assets within the European Union, has expressed concerns about the proposal.
