Donald Trump has abandoned arrangements for a deployment of government forces to the Bay region that had triggered extensive opposition from state officials and drawn activists flooding into the streets.
The locale had been on edge after reports emerged that the government was poised to send more than 100 Customs and Border Protection and government personnel to the US Coast Guard base in the East Bay, as part of a major immigration enforcement operation.
However, the chief executive stated he would not advance with a “escalation” of national agents in the region after meeting with the local official, Daniel Lurie, and business leaders including tech executive and technology leader.
“In that conversation, the chief executive informed me clearly that he was calling off any plans for a national operation in the city,” the mayor commented in a release.
