The athlete achieved her fastest time of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in London.

Keely Hodgkinson concluded her two-lap campaign with a triumph at the all-female Athlos event in New York on Friday evening.

{The current Olympic champion, who earned third place at the World Championships last month, excelled in an outstanding win in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a season affected by a hamstring injury.

Compatriot and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell finished second again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) secured third place.

"I haven't competed much this season so it was likely less of a struggle for me to go out there and be motivated to perform," stated Hodgkinson.

"The atmosphere at the event is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."

The female-exclusive event filled Icahn Stadium in its second edition, introducing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena Williams, who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was present to award the victors with their tiaras.

Previous champions took home $60,000 (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.

The event also drew several top athletes, as Kenya's three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, finishing in 4:17.78.

The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, secured the 100m and 200m double.
